The first is the work by N. G. Majumdar on the early medieval Bengal society. This tome and its follow-ups were produced over several decades (1932–53, 1956–61, and 1973).73 Majumdar, particularly through his work on the Rasa Ratnakara, displayed the regional characteristics of early medieval Bengal society.74
The historiography of early medieval Bengal in the post-2000 decade is marked by the publication of the monograph of Kunal Chakrabarti and the work on the ceramics of early medieval Bengal by Vinayak Chakravarti.71 Chakrabarti, who also edited the monograph, took up the issue of economic marginality in the monograph.71 He showed the regional importance of the Bengal delta as an entrepot of trade with other countries of the known world, including the Silk Road.72 The latter work of Vinayak Chakravarti focuses on the ceramic tradition of the deltaic region.73
The third is the work of Sudipta Dhavamony, on the short medieval era of the Chaulukya dynasty.77 This is a translation of textiles found at the Chaulukya site of Dighikona. The first two works of the series focused on the early medieval arts of Bengal. The third, which was the most recent, is on the regional links of ancient Bengal with the Chaulukya kingdom.78
The second is the work of Kumar Ramakrishna on the brahmanical literature of early medieval Bengal.75 Since this was also the period of the emergence of the brahmanical puras, he tried to correlate the two. He showed the brahmanical movements from the confessional aspect and their interaction with regional culture, the Jain and Buddhist traditions. As a result of the excavations at the sites of Attanagar and Duttasthali, he also discovered the work of the brahmanical poets of ancient Bengal, which he edited and published.76
Much of the surviving early medieval material has been discussed in the context of Buddhist art.75 Most of the extant Buddhist material is in stone sculptures, medallions and wall paintings, while a few examples are in manuscript.76 As the most abundant form of Buddhist art in Bengal, this material has been the subject of several scholarly studies.77 The study of Buddhist art has its roots in the work of Jamapa Ramayya, a dedicated Buddhist art scholar.78 Charan Chattopadhyaya has used those studies to study the evolution and spread of the Buddha image in Bengal.79

One of the drawbacks to this approach was that we needed to recompile every time we made even a small change to the code. This slowed everything else we were doing down and because we couldn't always have someone waiting for the application to finish building. 827ec27edc
