The Death Saurer first appeared in Zoids: Chaotic Century, as a major part of the central plot of the series. It is depicted as an extraordinarily evil Zoid with a will of its own, and is able to possess the Imperial regent, Gunther Prozen, who then sought to revive the Death Saurer by secretly using Raven to collect Zoid Cores. He then amalgamates these cores, and ultimately is successful in reviving the Zoid. It is first seen in Episode 32, where it goes berserk in response to Fiona's presence.
The last-minute change was a major disaster. The audience response was a massive earthquake that disrupted the whole town. As the theater evacuates, a group of the local women, led by one of the film's executive producers, starts a march to the town hall. They demand that the film be released and a public investigation be conducted.
The powers that be have decided to pay a private investigator to look into the situation. He starts by going to the theater and interviewing the audience. The film ran great, and there were not even any complaints, much less a riot!
However, the audience was unruly at the start of the film. They were throwing things, yelling obscenities, and one female audience member threatened to kill the lead actor. She left in the middle of the first action scene, and a few minutes later the movie was off and running.
So if the television series had been made with a strictly female audience in mind -- and given that it was made in the 1990s, and was written by a female, I think we can safely assume that this was the audience -- it would have been seen as a very bad thing. Indeed, it has been described as the worst Zoid film ever made. And for the worst Zoid film ever made, the screenplay would have been written by one of the worst people ever to write a screenplay -- which is probably a bit of a boast, as this is the worst Zoid film ever made.
