The API RP 2SIM and ISO 19902 draft versions are intended to be a summary of the API RP 2SIM. This document updates the API RP 2SIM and ISO 19902 draft versions, clarifies language, and identifies API updates made to the proposed API RP 2SIM (RP2SIM) since it was published in November 2009. It is not intended to be a replacement for the API RP 2SIM, nor is it intended as a replacement for ISO 19902.
API is aware that not all offshore operators are required to use any commercial offshore integrity management systems. Nevertheless, API believes it is important to provide a viable and recommended means for the appropriate application of API RP 2A to offshore structures. API RP 2SIM is based on the same principals and philosophy as API RP 2A. The intent of API RP 2SIM is not to impose pre-existing requirements. The API RP 2SIM and ISO 19902 draft versions are not intended to be a replacement for API RP 2A or ISO 19902. Accordingly, the API RP 2SIM is not intended to replace either of these two documents and is not intended to apply to offshore structures constructed before the dates specified in the current draft of the API RP 2SIM and ISO 19902.
The API RP 2SIM and ISO 19902 draft versions collectively include several new or revised items. Several have been published on API’s Web site as “Comments” on the draft version of the API RP 2SIM. Others are in the process of incorporation into draft API RP 2SIM. All of these comments are incorporated into this document, and a complete list of API commented-on materials is available on the API Web site. Comments can be sent via e-mail to API at email@example.com.
Many of the revisions proposed in the latest version of API RP2SIM are similar to those found in Draft D of ISO 19902. Most are related to clarifying and reinforcing language that was not intuitive to offshore oil and gas industry personnel in the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the more noteworthy changes are discussed below.
