Helping a Family Clinic

My cousin runs a small clinic and recently asked me for marketing advice. I quickly realized I know very little about healthcare marketing. Several people suggested focusing on local SEO first. Before I make recommendations, can anyone point me to information on local SEO for doctors and why it's critical for new patient acquisition?

A few months ago my cousin opened a small clinic and assumed most new patients would come through word of mouth. Surprisingly, people kept saying, “I couldn’t find you on Google.” That’s when we learned how important local SEO is for doctors. Most patients search things like “family doctor near me” or “clinic in my area,” so showing up in local results can directly affect appointments. I found some useful explanations on healthcare marketing agency vs in-house marketing team  about healthcare-focused marketing and local visibility. For a new clinic, local SEO seems less like a bonus and more like a necessity.
